The Guajira Desert sits in the far north of Colombia.
It is the home of the Wayuu people. Visit quiet beaches and desert landscapes. Travel to the Cabo de la Vela or further to Punta Gallinas. You can go walking, scuba diving, hire a bike or camp by the sea. Avianca flies into Riohacha from Bogota and Santa Marta.
Uribia is the indigenous capital and has a daily market where you can find handcrafts and clothing. If you’re in the region in May then you might be able to see the Wayuu Indian festival. One of the best ways to travel and see the Guajira is to book a 4WD tour. Due to the lack of marked roads, it is not recommended to travel this area independently.
